NATFORCE To Create 3,000 Jobs In Onitsha
No fewer than 3,000 jobs will be created in Onitsha within three months, Chief Osita Okereke, the National Vice-Chairman of National Taskforce on Illegal Importation of Arms, Ammunitions and Light Weapons (NATFORCE), has said.
He said this in Onitsha on Saturday, while inaugurating the newly elected executive members of the Anambra State chapter of NATFORCE.
Okereke said that the target of the organisation was to create three million jobs for young people across the country within the next two years.
He said that the job-creation activities were aimed at ensuring effective crime control and management in the society.
Our correspondent reports that NATFORCE was formed by the Importers Association of Nigeria to aid the efforts of the Federal Government to fight the proliferation of small arms, ammunition and light weapons in West Africa via a public-private partnership.
Okereke said that the Anambra chapter of the organisation would commence the training of 3,000 officers next week, adding that they would later be deployed to various communities within the next two months.
“Anambra State alone imports 65 per cent of the goods coming into the country. This is a sure proof that commerce booms in the state more than any other state in Nigeria.
“Therefore, apart from monitoring illegal importation of arms, ammunitions and light weapons, the task force will ensure that all goods imported are of high quality, which corresponds with the quality of the ones quoted on the proforma invoice,’’ he said.
Earlier, Chief Godwin Okeke, a National Trustee of NATFORCE, urged Nigerians to be alert and more security conscious, urging them to report any suspicious person or group to the security agencies.
“Security, today, is everybody’s business and we will be contributing to the betterment of our society if we contribute to the security of our communities,’’ he said.
In his speech, Chief Osita Okosieme, the new NATFORCE Chairman in Anambra, assured the national executives of the organisation that the members of his executive council would not betray the confidence reposed in them.
“We will strive to abide by the laws guiding our operation and we will shun all forms of aberration,’’ he said.
