NASS Plans Nationwide Road Repairs
The National Assembly is to evolve discussions in favour of appropriating additional funds to facilitate good road network in the country, Sen. Ayogu Eze has said.
The Chairman of Senate Committee on Federal Emergency Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Sen. Eze told newsmen that the National Assembly was concerned about the poor conditions of roads in the country. He said the lawmakers were taking holistic views on the provision of infrastructure in all modes of transportation.
“Not only the roads, but the railway and the water ways because, if we are thinking of being a great nation by 2020 then we must begin to think in that direction,’’ he said.
He said a legal frame work would be put in place to generate funds and make sure that in the next five years, the country would have an enviable road network. Eze said there was need to maintain existing roads before embarking on the construction of new ones.
Eze was a participant in the just-concluded retreat, organised by the Federal Ministry of Works, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, entitled: “Improving Road Sector Infrastructure for Socio-economic Transformation.”
