Lawmaker Tasks Leaders On Oath Of Office

ing Degema/Bonny Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon Sokonte Davies, has stressed the need for elected leaders across the country to begin to fulfil the requirements of the oath of office and allegiance they took in order to give meaning to the living standard of the people.
Hon Davies who made the remarks in an interview in Port Harcourt said there was need for leaders to fufil the requirements of the oath of office and allegiance in such a way that the people they are serving would be given a sense of belonging.
He posited that the leaders needed to realise that those who were elected to pursue the collective interest of the people they are not to behave as people who were out to feather their own nests but to ensure better quality of life, for the citizens.
The parliamentarian while urging the leaders to strive at all times to give the people hope, indicated that they could do so by their actions and not necessarily by the words of mouth which are visible and not given skeptical interpretations by the people.
Hon Davies acknowledged that at 51 years, Nigeria had come of age but noted that the country still has the capability of surpassing its achievements.
According to him, “with the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan, the country in no distant time would begin to realise its potentials and also begin to play a more vibrant role in international affairs.”
The lawmaker also expressed optimism that Nigerians would soon begin to enjoy the fullest of the beauty of independence, assuring that “as we begin to maximize our potentials as a nation and individuals, issues that question our nationhood would begin to find proper bearing and be resolved.”
On what he has been doing to improve the quality of life of his constituents, Hon. Davies said with the inauguration of the various committees of the National Assembly, work would commence in earnest give their yearnings and aspirations a boost.
He noted that interaction with the relevant Ministry to start work on the Bonny/Bodo Road had commenced adding that a lot of things were in the pipeline to better the lot his constituents.
