Karibi -Whyte Decries ASUU Demands On Govt

The Chairman, Governing Council of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Justice Adolphus Karibi-Whyte (Rtd) has cautioned the Academic Staff Unions of Universities (ASUU) and industrial unions in the Tertiary Education sector, against making incessant demands on the government.

Justice Karibi-Whyte who is a retired Justice of the Supreme Court said this in an exclusive interview with The Tide shortly after the 19th -22nd Non-Denominational Convocation Church Service of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) in Port Harcourt.

The Council Chairman said that government at the moment is saddled with a lot of responsibilities, noting that what is required of the unions are understanding and patience with the government.

While commending the present Administration in the institution for the proposed ceremony, he however said that the university requires physical infrastructural development to compete with its counterparts in other ports of  the country.

Also speaking, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor B.B. Fakae said that both the Senate President, Chief David Mark and High Chief O.B. Lulu Briggs would  be conferred with Honorary Doctorate Degrees of the institution, Prof Fakae also said that the university is working hard to ensure that the convocation ceremonies become a regular feature of the institution’s calendar and described the forthcoming event as  part of the rescue mission of the present Administration of the university.

In his sermon entitled  “Arise And Shine” Rev Charles Allison challenged the management of the institution to remain strong despite the challenges.

The clergyman also urged them to strive for excellence while at the some time putting their faith in God.

The service which was held at the Chapel of Redemption, RSUST featured prayers for the institution, the state and the nation.
