INC Challenges Nigerians On National Unity
The Ijaw National Congress (INC) says it would continue to work for the unity of the nation even after the tenure of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as President of INC.
The President of INC, Chief Joshua Benamnisia Ibiako who stated this in an interview with political desk Friday, said those who were working to disintegrate the country would not succeed.
Ibiakpo noted that Dr Goodluck Jonathan had become the symbol of peace and unity, stressing that after the president took over leadership of the country, the nation became more united.
He assured that the socio-cultural organisation will do everything humanly possible to ensure that the country continue to live in peace as a united entity.
According to him, “if Nigeria would have been separated, it would have, long ago but now we shall remain one “as an entity”.
Ibiakpo said what the country needed is restructuring of the polity while advocating for ethnic nationality conference to enable the people decide what they want and where to stay.
The INC president also called for the review of the 1990 constitution, noting that the country can not be using a constitution drafted by the military to be practiced in a democracy.
The review of the constitution is necessary, this would ensure that everybody is involve. We can not say we are practicing democracy when our constitution still recognizes decrees. The land use decree is till in our constitution”, he said.
He further said that the restructuring of the nation’s polity would make the component units stronger and the centre strong, condemning the present structure where the centre is strong and the components weak.
