Gokana Farmers Get N3m Grant
As part of efforts geared toward sufficiency in food production in his area, the Chairman of Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State, Hon. Ledee Deemua, has made available the sum of N3 million for farmers in the LGA.
Making the disclosure recently during a 2-day “good governance forum” organised by AA Peace Work, an NGO at Kpor, head quarters of the LGA, Hon Deemua said the gesture was part of efforts by the LGA in boosting agricultural development in the area.
He said that what the local government has done was to compliment the efforts of the federal and state governments in the transformation of the agricultural sector in the area.
While thanking the federal government and the world bank for releasing the sum of N26 million as counterpart funding for the kick off of the programme in the area, he urged the benefiting farmers to make judicious use of the funds.
Speaking to our correspondent shortly after the events, some of the benefiting farmers expressed gratitude to the local government chairman for making the process a reality and called on the federal and state governments to replicate the gesture in other local government areas of the state.
