Enugu To Amend Water Corp. Law
The Enugu State Executive Council (EXCO) has approved the amendment of the State Water Corporation 2004 Law to enable the corporation sink boreholes.
The State Commissioner for Information, Mr Chuks Ugwoke, told newsmen recently in Enugu that the amendment of the law would help reduce the problem of water supply in the state.
According to Ugwoke, “the amendment will empower the corporation to issue and renew licences for sinking and using boreholes’’.
He said that the council had resolved to take the bill to the Enugu State House of Assembly for consideration and possible passage.
The commissioner announced that the council had called on commercial motorcycle operators to comply with the law banning them from plying dual carriage ways as offenders would pay a fine of N5,000.
Ugwoke said the ban was geared toward bringing peace, ensuring adequate security, protecting lives and property of citizens.
“Activities of motorcycle operators encourage crimes, pose danger to lives and property.’’
The State Commissioner for Transport, Pastor Dan Anike and the Special Adviser to the Enugu Governor on Diaspora, Prof. Ike Mba, accompanied Ugwoke to the meeting.
