Diamond Academy Targets APFON Trophy
The South-South representatives in the Association of Professional Footballers of Nigeria (APFON) football tournament, Diamond Football Academy of Rivers State has stated their desire to win the competition, which commenced at the weekend in Lagos.
Technical adviser of the academy, Mana Ben Peter made known the academy’s position while fielding questions from sports journalists, shortly after his team presented the trophy won as champions in the zone to the state’s Commissioner For Sports, Fred Igwe, in his office, in Port Harcourt, last week.
According to him, the team is determined and has the potentials to emerge national champions in the tournament.
“I do not have any doubt that my players would emerge champions, they are determined and have sound technical knowledge of the game to achieve the desire,” Peter said.
He explained that the Academy remains one of the oldest in the state that has groomed some good players like Kelechi Osunwa, Obinna Nsofor, among others.
Peter revealed that the tournament trophy was donated by Obinna Nsofor, as part of his contributions towards football development in Nigeria.
