Conference Charges Government On Transparency, Unemployment
The Mother Union and Women’s Guild of the Anglican Communion, has ended its conference in Abuja with a call on the Federal Government to initiate projects that would fast-track the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The appeal which was contained in a communique issued at the end of its conference, stressed the need for government to tackle unemployment and pursue policies and programmes that would foster national unity.
It listed the areas the government should give priority to include agriculture, health, education and women empowerment.
“The conference appealed to those in elected and appointed positions to imbibe the culture of transparency and accountability in the discharge of their duties,’’ the communique said.
It urged the government to involve women in peace building processes and step up their intervention to ensure that Nigerians imbibe the right moral teaching and toe the path of peace.
The communique noted that stability in marriage was critical to establishing a righteous society and blamed mothers for the alarming increase in crime.
It enjoined women to live exemplary lives and endeavour to imbibe such virtues as humility, love, obedience and respect for their husbands, so as to rid the society of unrighteousness.
The communique was signed by Mrs Nkasiobi Okoh, President of the association.
