Rivers State Amateur Wrestling Association Coach, Oyonomunude Eli has appealed to the state government to renew its contract with wrestling athletes that participated in the “Garden City Games 2011”, held in Port Harcourt recently.

Coach Eli, made the appeal in an exclusive chat with Tidesports at the Alfred Diette Spiff Sports Complex, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

He said that the contract between the state government and the athletes terminated in June this year, pointing out that the athletes need to be re-contracted if they would represent the state in the forthcoming National Sports Festival billed to hold in Lagos, in 2011.

He explained that early preparation is the major key to success adding that if the contract is renewed the athletes would be more committed to start preparation for the task ahead, he said.

He was of the view that if something was not done urgently the state may lose the athletes to other states, which  according to him would spell doom for the state, saying that the athletes made the state proud and should be allowed to defend the position of Team Rivers on the NSF table.

Coach Eli also appealed to the state government to provide the body with the adequate sporting kits and equipment to enable the athletes prepare properly for the competition.

He disclosed that the association lack needed equipment to train since after the NSF games, saying that, the provision of necessary equipment would improve and enhance the performance of the athletes.
