Secretary of the Rivers State Gymnastics Association (RSGA) Doris Madume Kurobo has appealed to the State Government to provide Sporting equipment for the association to enable the athletes train and improve on their skills.

Kurobo made the appeal at the weekend in a chat with the Tidesports at the Alfred Diette-Spiff Sports Complex, Port Harcourt.

He said that the athletes need necessary equipment to improve their skills and as well prepare for local and national competitions, saying that, without these equipment the team can not perform creditably in any tournament.

The gymnastics Scribe explained that there was no equipment for the athletes to train before the Garden City Games.

The equipment used were borrowed from Kaduna and Abuja; we prepared fully for rings but we could not participate because there was no wrings during the preparation for the National Sports Festival. While camping we had to go to Akure and Abuja to ensure that we compete farourably with our counterparts outside the state, she said.

Kurobo maintained that up till date the athletes still go outside the state to train which she described as ridiculous for a state that recently held the 17th NSF games.

She therefore appealed to the state government to come to the aid of the association, noting that if something was not done urgently it may mar the future of the team at the forthcoming 18th National Sports Festival Scheduled to hold in Lagos State, next year.

“There are competitions we can not attend because of this same issue of equipment such as the 4th edition of the Dangote GymnasticS competition, which the team has not participated in for once. This way the sport would not grow to the desired height in the state. She said.
