Airport Boss Tasks Stakeholders On Safety
The Regional Airport Manager, South- South /South- East Zone, Mr. Henry Anyanwu has called on stakeholders to contribute to issues that would enhance positive safety culture at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa.
Mr. Anyanwu was speaking while inaugurating the Airport Safety committee, Wednesday, at the Port Harcourt International Airport Omagwa.
The Regional Manager who is also the chairman of the committee explained that “the constitution of the committee for the airport is in compliance with relevant section of Nig. CARs part 12, and Port Harcourt International Airport safety management System manual section 4.3.4”
He said “by this inauguration , the sms implementation status of Port Harcourt International Airport is now at par with other three major airports in the country (Lagos, Abuja and Kano)”.
He stressed that the inauguration of the committee was also a demonstration of the commitment by the management of Port Harcourt International Airport to managing safety as a critical business function.
Mr. Anyanwu noted that the membership of the committee. Which comprises head of various departments, agencies/ organisations operating at the airport is the highest decision- making body on safety matters.
The Regional Manager said the committee at its quarterly meetings would “discuss incidents and accidents, proffer solution /recommendations for necessary actions and encourage positive safety culture among stakeholder”.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Airport safety manager, Mr. Richard Aweda said the constitution of the committee was a necessary step in the implementation of safety management system (sms).
According to him, it is a committee where all issues related to safety of operation in the airport are dispensed and decision taken on how they could be addressed for continuity of safe operations.
He enjoined stakeholders to come out with Brilliant ideas and suggestions that would move the committee forward in such a way that identified hazards for flight operation would be effectively managed.
