Women Challenge Cup: Nassarawa Beat Abia 5 – 0

Nassarawa Queens shot into the lead of the women challenge football competition at the weekend after defeating the Abia Babes five goals to nothing.

With the result, Nassarawa now leads the Ilorin centre with nine points from three matches.

Sunshine Queens of Akure are second with six points from two matches, while Towo Queens of Ibadan have three points after defeating the FCT Queens 2 – 1 earlier in the day.

So far, the FCT and Abia Babes have not secured any point from the two matches played so far.

However, in the energy sapping encounter between Nassarawa and Abia Babes played at the Ilorin Township Stadium, Nassarawa, overwhelmed their opponents and dominated the game.

Joy Nkoro and Tinaa Oyakilome of Nassarawa were too much for their opponent to handle, while their efforts paid off in the first half of the game with three goals scored by the duo.

The second half saw Nassarawa more determined to increase the tally as Okonkwo Amarachi scored through a volley in the 78th minute of the game.

Chicka Kelvin sealed off the game with another goal from a pull-out from Joy Nkoro from the right flank which caught the goal keeper napping.

From the result of the matches played on Saturday, the leadership of the centre is still open, while qualification is between the Nasarawas and Sunshine of Akure, who have six points from only two matches.
