Victory Over Nigeria Relieves Argentine Coach
Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella was relieved to come away with victory over what he described as a ‘strong’ Nigeria team.
Tuesday’s 3-1 win handed Sabella his second consecutive victory since being appointed Albiceleste coach, and he was quick to credit his superstar captain Lionel Messi.
“We scored three goals and even though Messi did not score any goal, he was the architect in creating the chances.
“Nigeria is a very strong team and it was very difficult to beat them,” Sabella said.
“We lost to them in the first match and it is clear they have improved from the team we saw at the World Cup. We had to be very careful so I fielded three central defenders to contain the pace and movement of their quick strikers.”
Nigeria beat Argentina 4-1 in Abuja in the first game of the two-match series.
