Supporters Boss Want Govt To Revisit No. 6 Field
Following the bad state of No.6 Field in Port Harcourt towship, Rivers State, the Chairman of Sharks FC supporters club, Minaiyo Igani has appealed to the Rivers State Government, through the Ministry of Sports to ensure that the facility is fully reconstructed.
Igani made the appeal in an exclusive interview with Tidesports, yesterday in Port Harcourt. He stated that the pitch which was recently awarded to be constructured is currently muddy and water logged.
According to him, the field is an eye-sore and the contractor who handled the job disappointed the youths in the area.
“I am highly disappointed, because since they purportedly finished that project, youths could no longer play on the pitch, the field is muddy and water logged to the extent that football cannot bounce on it,” Igani said.
The supporters club boss further stated that he was realiably informed that the contract value for the renovation of the play ground was huge and wondered why the contractor could not do a nice job.
“I was told that the contract value for that field was huge. I am not bothered about the money that was involved, but the job was poorly executed.
My brother, you know that this is the only field in Port Harcourt township, where scouts come to pick players, it needs to be in good state for the youths to have the opportunity of showcasing their talent,” he said.
Igani, also appealed that the field should be re-surfaced with an Astro turf to enable the field serve its purpose.
The chairman used the forum to commend the governor of the state Rt Hon. Chibuike Amaechi for appointing a Sport Commissioner who has the focus to reposition sports in the state.
