Dolphins FC’s Supporters Club Port Harcourt has called on the players of the team to put in more efforts to ensure that they emerge winners of the 2010/2011 Nigeria Premier League season.

The chairman of the club, Otis Asonye made the call in an exclusive interview with Tidesports shortly after the club ended their monthly general meeting, yesterday in Port Harcourt.

He said that following the 100 per cent payment of the players’ sign-on fee and other entitlements by the Rivers State Government there was need for the team to justify the gesture by winning their remaining four matches and emerging league winners to make the state proud.

“The players should put more efforts, so that they can win their remaining matches in the league. Now that government has paid all their entitlements, the players have no other option than to justify the money given to them,” Asonye said.

He continued that the players should not be carried away by their current position on the log, saying that what is required now is to be focused and determined to get the required result.

“I advise the players to be more focused and determined to ensure that set objectives are achieved.

“The most important thing is to win the league” he stated.

Asonye used the forum to commend the newly appointed Commissioner for Sports in the state, Hon Fred Igwe over his pragmatic approach to revive sporting activities in the state.

The Supporters Club boss explained that the appointment of Igwe came at the right time, because sports administration and management had collapsed in the past administration.

“I am happy that Rt Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi appointed Fred Igwe who has the potential to revive sports in the state.

“I believe that the Commissioner will improve all segments of sports in the state,” he added.
