Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Stakeholders in Rivers State have charged the newly inaugurated constitution review committee members to ensure that clauses which would strengthen internal democracy in the party were not overlooked.

Chief Wilson Ocho told The Tide in an interview on Thursday that the setting up of the constitution review committee is a good development for the party to enable it address some lapses inherent in the present constitution.

Chief Ocho who described himself as a party man since he won councillorship election in the old Ikwerre Local Government Area, said issues which bothered on internal democracy caused deflection of some members to other parties.

He remarked that PDP which parades itself as the largest party in Africa cannot  afford to allow charlatans to derail the vision of the founding fathers of the party.

The PDP stalwart hinted that the 23 wisemen headed by Olusola Oke, should ensure that procedures for enhancing the gains of democratic governance in Nigeria were explicitly found in the party’s status book.

According to him, “the process of suspending and expelling of members as well as the conditions for re-admission of returnee members should be clearly stated to avoid repeat of what happened in the build-up to the 2011 elections, where aggrieved members left and returned at will.

Chief Ocho equally suggested the inclusion of disciplinary measures to be taken by the party in the event of a non performing member in any elective office or those whose companies got contracts but failed to deliver them.
