RSIEC Assures On Successful Degema Elections

The Commissioner incharge of Estate and Maintenance in the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) Dr. Asinyetoha Igoni has reiterated the commissions commitment to conduct a fair and violence free election in Degema come September this year.

Dr. Igoni, who disclosed this last Wednesday in a chart with newsmen in Port Harcourt, noted that, the Commission had conducted one of the freest election in the recent times.

“Though, no man is perfect, I can say, RSIEC in the just-concluded local government elections in the state had conducted what can describe as the freest and violence free election in the recent democracy”. Dr. Igoni stated.

He said, the Commission will use the remaining local governments election in the state as a test case as to how the next 2014 local government elections would be like in the state.

According to him, the 2014 elections in the state would be more standard than ever witnessed before in the state.

Dr. Igoni used the opportunity to warn politicians and political parties in the forthcoming Degema Local Government elections against electoral malpractices and thungery during the election.

He said the Commission would not hesitate to cancel election in any ward or community found engaging in malpractices and that those involved will be punished according to the law.
