RSG To Demolish Railway Quarters, Market
Governor Chibuike Amaechi, has ordered that two buildings inside the Railway quarters and the front section of the temporary market housing the traders relocated from the New Town Market along Station Road in old Port Harcourt Township be demolished to pave way for the monorail project.
Rt. Hon Amaechi gave the order when he paid an unscheduled visit to the New Town Market under construction, including the monorail yesterday in Port Harcourt.
The Governor who frowned at the slow pace of work at the New Town Market urged the contractor to return to site or face stiff sanctions while stressing that the traders needed to return to their stalls before the end of the year.
At the monorail site, he noted that some of the houses at the railway quaters needed to pave way for the rail columns now few meters from the Sharks Club Car Park. He therefore urged residents of the area to inform the railway head office, as they had one week to vacate the buildings before the exercise.
Also Governor Amaechi has ordered the contractor handling the Agip flyover project to ensure that a quality job is executed and frowned at the level of ashphalt applied on the surface of the bridge.
From indications, the bridge is billed to be completed by the end of this month and the Governor had earlier instructed the contractor to hasten the pace of work so as to open the bridge for motorists before the end of next month.
