Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has directed its local government party chairmen to commence the registration of intending members of the party with effect from Tuesday, September 20, 2011.

This was the outcome of the State Party Executive Council meeting with local government party chairmen on Monday at the party’s secretariat in Port Harcourt.

In an interview with The Tide shortly after the meeting, the State PDP Chairman, Chief Godpower Ake, said the meeting followed a directive from the national secretariat of the party in Abuja.

Chief Ake, disclosed that the meeting centered on how to conduct a smooth registration exercise, noting that the exercise was expected to last for 10 days beginning from September 20.

He therefore advised all intending members to go to their various wards and register as the exercise was open to all who wish to join the party, emphasising that the state exco had received enough membership cards.

Denying the allegation that the party’s executive was in disarray, Chief Ake, said such allegation was baseless, adding that “we had a fruitful meeting with all in attendance, in fact there is no disagreement in the party”.

On the party’s constitutional review, the chairman said the state executive had not made any input as the national secretariat  had not requested for contributions from them, assuring that they would abide by the work of the review committee when it was finally completed.
