Rivers CAN Tasks Govt On Security
The Rivers State Council of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has urged the government not to take lightly the rumoured infiltration of the Niger Delta by the Boko Haram Islamic group.
The State Chairman of the Association, Apostle Zilly Aggrey who said this during the rededication service of Omuma Local Government Area, also urged for increased security around public institutions in the region.
The CAN President who was represented by the coalition Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Georgewill Peter also urged for vigilance among the people of the region.
He commended the leadership of the Association in the area and stressed the need for the people to shun evil and embrace Christ.
Apostle Aggrey also challenged the leadership of Omuma Local Government Council to strive towards radical transformation of the Local Government Area for prosperity.
According to him it is the responsibility of the council to strive towards the provision of social amenities such as roads, potable drinking water, electricity and the provision of employment opportunities for youths in the area.
Also speaking, the Coordinator of the Association in the area, Rev. Mike Okey Nweke thanked the Association for the programme and stressed the need for the provision of office space and funds for CAN operation in the area.
He also appealed to the Local Government Chairman Hon. John Anucha for the provision of evangelical van for the Association.
The service was attended by traditional rulers and other members of the public.
