Power Tussle Bane Of ACN – Okwukwu
The embattled chairman of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) Rivers state, Mr. Uche Okwukwu has identified power tussle as the problem of the opposition party in the state.
Mr. Okwukwu who stated this recently as guest of The Tide Round Table, noted that the State governorship candidate of the ACN in the 2011 general election, Dr. Abiye Sekibo Wants to hijack and hold on to the party.
The ACN chairman said he would not resign from his position which hasbeen recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) because he did not betray the party. He noted that the party stakeholders did not ask him to resign when he told them in a meeting that he was going on air to take a personal decision.
According to him, the decision he took before the governorship election was personal and as such he could not resign even though the matter has still in the court.
He explained that he joined in a matter brought by some factions of ACN, who wanted the 2011 local government election cancelled without bothering that some candidates of the party won as councilors in the said election.
“I told the court that Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) gave notice in October last year and the party started sale of forms in November in 2010. I would not be a party in misleading the people, the records are there”, he said.
