Orji Bemoans Insecurity In First Tenure
Gov. Theodore Orji of
Abia has said that insecurity and “external encumbrances’’ created bottlenecks in his first tenure and slowed down performance.
The governor, who made this known at an interview session last Sunday, added that strenuous efforts were made to address both issues and the state had been progressing ever since.
“ In the first tenure we had lot of encumbrances in governance and what we have done is to make sure that Abia is totally free of any external encumbrance and that is a major achievement which we want to sustain.
“Secondly we had this issue of security. Security was a problem in Abia in my first tenure and we were able to overcome it and in the second tenure, we want to sustain that.’’
Orji noted that political harmony was lacking in the state before now as people were divided along so many lines, a situation, which, he said had changed, and added that his administration had been able to unite the people of the state who currently see themselves as members of one family.
“We are now more focused and we want to sustain that. Why I am mentioning these things, is because these are the ingredients, these are the elements that would make for a focused leadership and leader.
“Since we have been able to tackle these problems and have gotten them under control, the road is now very clear and the future is bright for Abia because we are now working as a family.”
Orji said that the state government was focused and “ determined to take the state to the next level of development infrastructurally, economically, socially and morally’’. The governor also lamented poorly constructed road networks before he came into office and assured that his administration was addressing the issue, frontally.
He pledged that his administration would rehabilitate poorly constructed roads and build new ones.
He said: “Abia has been backward in terms of road construction. The roads that were hitherto constructed were not done well. We are now reconstructing and amending the bad ones.
“We are providing other infrastructures for our people such as water and light and we are trying to control the environment, especially in Aba where we have environmental degradation. “We have to a very large extent, maintained the sanity of the area in terms of environmental control not only in Aba but also in Umuahia.’’
