The Minister of State for Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike, has directed the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to educate Nigerians on the conflicting results it published for the 2011 WAEC Examinations.

Wike gave the directive last Friday when Mr. Uyi Uwadiae, Head of WAEC Office in the country, led a delegation to the Minister’s office to explain the posting of the results on the council’s website.

The Minister said the essence of the meeting was to enable the public have confidence that government was taking the matter seriously.

“We are not just folding our hands and saying we are not bothered. We have called for this briefing to enable us discuss and hear directly from the Head of WAEC,” he said.

In his remarks, Uwadiae explained that the errors could be attributed to some candidates’ inability to complete the examination process correctly.

According to him, this made it difficult for the council to have a complete data base for the candidates.

He, however, said the WAEC resolved some of the problems and released the first batch of the results on August 10.

“When we released some of the results, we mentioned that the council encountered few problems which made it impossible to release 100 per cent results.

“Such problems are in the course of upgrading and uploading results when we discovered that some results were different from the earlier ones released.
