Lawmaker Urges Peaceful Resolution Of Oil Well Dispute
Following the claims of ownership between neighbouring Kpean and Sii communities in Khana LGA, over an oil well known as Kilometre 16, in the area, the member representing Khana Constituency 1 in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Legborsi Nwidadah has called for peaceful resolution of the issue, to avert crisis.
Hon. Nwidadah made the appeal at Kpean community while speaking to newsmen during the recent Coronation of Chief Peter Erelo-Kote as the new paramount ruler of the community.
The lawmaker said prior to the recent claim of ownership by Sii Community, the oil well had over the years been under the control of Kpean Community, and added that leaders of the two communities should not allow the situation to degenerate to crisis.
He described as unfortunate a situation where aggrieved youths of Sii community blew up the bridge leading to the oil well, which subsequently led to their arrest and detention by the Police before his intervention.
Hon. Nwidadah assured that he will liase with the Khana Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Greg Nwidam to ensure that the issue is amicable resolved.
He said a committee will soon be set up to investigate the issue, and added that the aggrieved parties should seek legal redress rather than resorting to crude measures to assert their claims.
Earlier, the chairman of the coronation ceremony, HRM King M.S.H. Eguru, Gbenemene Ken Khana, lauded the people of Kpean Community over their successful coronation of a new paramount Ruler.
King Eguru, who is also the Chairman of Khana Council of recognised Traditional Rulers, urged the people of Kpean to embrace peace to usher in accelerated development in the community.
