The Chief Imam of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) Central Mosque, Sheikh Adam Idoko, has urged Muslims to pray for the country for peace and unity to reign.

Idoko said in Nsukka, Enugu State, last Tuesday during the Eid el-Fitr prayers that it was the collective responsibility of all Nigerians to contribute their quota to fast track the development of the country.

“Nigeria is the only country we have, so we must join hands to make it the envy of other countries in the world.

“We should love our neighbours as well as be our brother’s keeper irrespective of religious affiliations,” he said.

The Imam urged the Federal Government to put adequate measures in place to tackle the current security challenges facing the country.

“The security challenge will be over as soon as the government and relevant security agencies shun bribery and corruption.

“Security agencies should be sincere and fair in handling security problems in the country,” he said.

The Chief Imam advised Muslim parents to send their children to schools that had sound moral teachings, warning that schools that allowed indecent dressing should be avoided.

“Some schools are agents of corruption and immorality. Ensure that schools you send your children to are not engaged in anti-Islamic teachings.

“If your child believes in another doctrine contrary to Islamic teachings, there is bound to be conflict and confusion in the family,” he said.

Idoko urged Muslims to share what they had with the less-privileged during the celebration to attract numerous blessings from Allah.

“Allah blesses immensely those who use their wealth to assist others. Do not allow the less-privileged in your midst to go about begging for food, share what you have with one another.

“Also ensure that all you learnt during the Ramadan transformed you positively,” he said.

Muslim faithful defied Tuesday’s morning downpour to troop out in their numbers for the Eid prayers, adding that security was tight around the prayer grounds.
