ICT Vacation Class: Students Appeal For Extension To LGAs

Beneficiaries of the ICT vacation class have called on the Rivers State Government to extend its Information Communication and Technology (ICT) vacation class to other parts of the state in order to accomodate move students in the state.

Speaking to The Tide during an interview in Port Harcourt, Miss Believe Rowlings, a JS3 student, said that the expansion of the ICT vacation class will be a big plus to all students in the state.

Rowlings, noted that the state government’s vacation class ought not to be centred in Port Harcourt metropolis alone, but to the outskirts of the state, like Bori, Igwuruta, Ahoada and Oyigbo axes.

She regretted that her friends who reside an within Port Harcourt metropolis enjoyed the 2011 ICT farm organised by the state, saying that the state should not only extend it to other areas, but should also make room for short vacation classes.

In her view about the establishment of the ICT centre, she said it is a welcomed development, adding that it remains one of the greatest achievements of the present administration.

Also speaking, an SS3 student, Master Johnson Amadi, noted that the ICT initiative deserves commendation due to its benefits.

According to him, the establishment of the ICT has spoken much of the Governor’s moves to take education in the state to the next level.

Others who spoke with The Tide, said the centre has direct bearing on students, while lauding the Governor’s Aide on ICT, Engr Goodliff Nmekini and the entire crew over what they described as a job well done.

It would be recalled that the state ICT centre has trained over 20,000 students via the ICT vacation class with the last batch on September 5, 2011.
