The Bayelsa Poverty Reduction and Humanitarian Society, a Non-governmental Organisation (NGO) says, it is committed in the efforts at alleviating poverty among citizens in respective countries.

The founding Executive Director of the NGO, Mr. Moin Jephthah stated this during the NGO’s public enlightenment programme organised at Eagle Island in Port Harcourt last Saturday.

Mr. Jephthah explained that the reason for his NGO to invest in the welfare of the citizenry was predicated on the need to make them viable enough to play a positive role in changing the society for better.

He said the MGO’s decision to use the concept of welfare was designed to address the challenges of the poor in society, adding that he was determined to use the NGO to prove strategically that poverty among people can be addressed as well as provide humanitarian services.

He noted that poverty as multidimensional, involves not only lack of income but also ill-health, illiteracy, lack of access to basic social services and little opportunity to participate in the process that influence people’s lives.

He remarked that a lot of barriers are inhibiting the services of providers of the poverty reduction programme, pointing out that a successful poverty reduction exercise require genuine intention, transparent approach and a sincere disposition of activities.
