Fimie Inferno Blamed On Improper Planning

The fire incident that gutted houses in Fimie Community in Abuloma Area of the Port Harcourt Local Government, last weekend, has been blamed on poor planning and non compliance to safety regulations.

Professionals in the housing sector have posited that the destruction of properties including residential houses and shops in the area would not have been much, if house owners had adhered to the policy of six feet distance between each houses.

An estate consultant in Port Harcourt, Richard Ogbondah has explained that the rate at which houses are clustered at the area potends danger to houses within the area, in the event of any fire incident.

On his part, Mr. Ariobiobara Bestman, the estate manager of PABOD Finance and Investment Company Limited, stated that there is always an accompanying danger of many houses to be gut with fire in case of an outbreak in such an area where houses are clustered.

He said that the ideal space to be given between two houses is six feet apart, which implies that three feet distance must be maintained from each other, to give chance to fire fighters in case of an emergency.

It would be recalled that fire gutted some houses at the Fimie axis of Amadi-Ama/Abuloma area of Port Harcourt, last Friday, while the cause of the fire was blamed on the bunkering activities in the area.‘
