FG Told To Reduce Duties On Imported Trucks

Federal Government has been urged to reduce the duties on imported trucks, considering their importance  in the intercity movement of goods and services.

The Managing Director of J.G. Haulage Limited, Jerome Ewanije made the call in an interview with The Tide  in Port Harcourt.

He said that since the collapse of the rail system in Nigeria, road transportation, business has assumed a wider dimension and has become the most utilized way of intercity movement of goods and service.

According to him, “obviously, we in the trucks business expect the government to intervene by reducing the import duty on imported trucks. This would no doubt play a fundamental role in the survival of the industry. The import tariff is not what we can personally influence or change. In our company we are of the firm belief that we have to abide by the laws of the land. If we create value to our customers we will always coast home smiling at the end of the day”, he noted.

He however, advised those who want to acquire trucks to be vigilant, advising that such people need expert advice before they purchase the trucks of their choice.

“My personal advice is that anyone who desires to acquire a truck should talk to an expert if he/she is not knowledgeable. You have to consult experts who are into the business, so that they give you proper guide line on the type of trucks that would serve you well and you would have value for your money.

On transport industry, sector, he said they have contributed their quota by providing quality and efficient services to their numerous customers.

He recalled that the company has been in existence since 1996, and has grown to become one of key players in the country’s haulage transportation industry.
