Growing big physically is loading your brain, the heart, liver, and other vital organs with fats, thereby blocking the required blood flow and the needed oxygen from flowing, a doctor, Dr Fred Achem has warned.

Achem told newsmen in Abuja that information and change in eating habits would urgently be required to knock the person back to shape and restore his health.

He explained that belly fats developed due to accumulation of fats in the abdominal region of the body, thereby causing discomfort for the person involved.

“The concept of being big in Nigeria is a signature to arrival, this is a misnomer, people have to keep their weight as low as possible.

“Even when the cheeks become chubby, it is an evidence of wrong living, this is just a full deposit of fats.

He said that men usually developed fats in the tummy, the neck, thighs, with exceptional cases in the backside.

Achem said that due to lack of information, most people just eat what they feel like eating not minding the contents of such food, adding that such should be discouraged.

He stressed the need for a change in dietary pattern as too much intake of fats, carbohydrates, and animal proteins would reduce the functions of the vital organs in the body.

“In women, belly fats could be as a result of pregnancy and breast feeding”.

The doctor stated that a lot of breast-feeding women consume whatever came their way to regain their original weight before pregnancy and after breast feeding.

Mothers only need to eat good vegetables, fruits, a little bit of animal protein, a lot of plant protein and a bit of dairy foods to make enough milk for the baby, and not carbohydrates and fats, he said.

He stated that women should avoid taking overripe fruits as it has been observed that they contain glucose, which could easily be converted to fats.

“It is the consciousness of what you really need that will put you on a strong footing for your health and the baby’s.

“One has to be very careful when eating because it is a balanced diet that matters after all,” he added.
