Elechi Approves Site For Islamic School

Gov. Martin Elechi of Ebonyi has approved the allocation of a parcel of land to the Muslim community in the state for the establishment of an Islamic school.

The school will be attended by “Almajiris” in the state to promote Islamic education.

Elechi made the pronouncement in Abakaliki while receiving the Muslim community in the state, led by its leader Alhaji Muhammad Ajah, who paid him a Sallah homage at the Government House.

The special school to be inaugurated at Afikpo North local government is in response to the demand by Muslims in the state.

Elechi, who was represented by his deputy, Chief Dave Umahi, congratulated the Muslim faithful for the successful completion of the Ramadan fast.

He stressed the need for tolerance and harmonious co-existence among adherents of different religions in the country.

“Nigerians should love one another as they reflect on the significance of the celebration and promote peace to overcome the current security challenges confronting the country.

“We will always ensure that Muslims and Christians co-exist harmoniously in the state to ensure its rapid growth and development,” he said.

Elechi assured Muslim faithfuls in the state of government’s continued cooperation and thanked them for their relentless support to his government.

Earlier, Ajah thanked the governor for the reception and pledged the community’s continued support to the government.

Ajah, whose message was read by Alhaji Suleiman Ogah, chairman, Muslim Pilgrim Welfare Board in the state, pledged that they would continue to observe the teachings of Prophet Mohammad and promote brotherhood among other religions.

Highlight of the occasion included the recitation from the Holy Quran by Sheik Obini Ekpeand exchange of gifts between the governor and the Muslim community.

Hundreds of Muslim faithful in the state held the Eid-el- Fitri prayers at the Hosana Central Mosque Abakalikion Tuesday.

Alhaji Ishaq Adamu, Chief Imam of Abakaliki in a sermon, condemned the incessant bomb attacks witnessed in the country and urged those behind such acts to have a rethink.

He said it was against the teachings of Islam to forcefully convert people to the religion, and called on Muslim faithful to always pray for peace and unity in the country.
