ECI Advocates Team Work In Security
Nigerians have been told to see security as a team work and not for security operatives alone if they want proper policing of the country.
Then National chairman of Elite Community Initiative (ECI), Ben Opara made the observation last Weekend at Isiokpo in Ikwerre Local Government during the orientation of ECI members.
Opara, said that paramilitary outfits, as well as members of the public are meant to work together in order to move the nation forward.
He blamed the near – collapsed security network in the country on insufficient feedback from communities to security operatives, adding that ECI is ready to stand-in-the gap.
On how to enhance the security system of the Nation, he said that the group had already been empowered by the Federal Government to use Internet Connectivity Security System (INOSS) in order to feed respective security agency with adequate information.
He also raised the issue of the autonomy of the paramilitary, saying that his group is not under the check of Inspector General of Police (IGP) or the Controller General of Prisons (CGP).
“We have been empowered. We are not under IGP or Controller General of prisons. No one can stop our activity, because it is defined” –he said.
About the welfare of his members, he revealed that each local government must absorb 14 of them and place them on a better working condition.
He also said that plans are being made by the group to educate youths on the need to abhor crime.
Also speaking, the Chairman, Rivers State Command, Hon. Sam Uzobor, said they had written to some top government functionaries in order to ensure that logistics are handled properly.
Hon. Uzobor maintained that ECI was set up by the Federal government to help and check the crime rate in the country, stressing that the group will add colour to the security network of the country.
Earlier, he had assured that the para-military outfit will comb all nooks and crannies of the nation to ensure proper security of the country.
