Ebonyi Govt Warns Admission, Job Racketeers

The Ebonyi Government has warned that it will punish individuals and groups who extort money from the public to secure university admission and employment for them.

The warning is contained in a release, issued by Mr Ndubisi Agbo, the Commissioner for Education, in Abakaliki last Monday.

The statement stated that such persons and groups promised to get admissions and employment for unsuspecting victims at the new Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ikwo.

“The government wishes to state that it has not mandated any agent or group to collect money from people, for the sake of securing admission or employment into the new federal university.

“Anybody, who patronises these unscrupulous elements does so at his or her own peril,” the commissioner warned.

Agbo said the government would deal with anyone caught involved in the deal, stressing that admission and employment in the institution would follow due process based on merit.

“The management of the university would not conduct any admission or employment in secrecy, as admission and employment interviews would be open to qualified individuals.’’

He reaffirmed the position of President Goodluck Jonathan, that none of the new federal universities would take off without adequate structures to sustain the operations of the institution.

Some persons have been allegedly duped by those, who promised them admissions and jobs at the institution.
