Council To Demolish Structures On Drainages
The Bwari Area Council says it will continue to demolish structures which create obstruction or block drainage channels in the area.
Mr Haruna Labaran, the council’s Head of Environmental Department, has said that clusters of illegal structures in the area had resulted in indiscriminate refuse dumps.
He said the local government administration would not tolerate unapproved structures and activities that would disrupt the area’s original master plan.
He decried the attitude of the residents who were fond of dumping refuse on roads, threatening that offenders would be prosecuted.
Labaran said the activities of some unscrupulous elements had resulted in health hazards in which some parts of the area had been infested with flies and diseases.
According to him, the indiscriminate waste dumps spread diseases and constitute obstruction to the free flow of traffic in the area.
He also decried the dumping of toxic and infectious wastes by manufacturers and food vendors in the area and urged residents to desist from such practice.
