Controversy Trails Replacement Of Imo Sports Director
Controversy now surrounds the headship of Imo Sports Council following recent retirement of the state’s Director of Sports Goddy Agbarakwe.
Agbarakwe who retired on July 29, had yet to leave office, a situation which had now been causing ripples within the council.
He was said to have received instructions from “above” to hold on for some time, pending the appointment of the substantive replacement.
It was gathered that Chizoba Aritola (Mrs), Secretary and Head of Administration and Austin Atasie currently in charge of combatant sports, were possible replacements.
Both were said to be now at daggers drawn because Atasie who was formerly senior to Aritola by rank, was now her subordinate, following demotion suffered by Atasie some time ago.
Meanwhile, Atasie, it was gathered had petitioned the Imo State House of Assembly over the demotion, alleging that it was wrongly effected.
The House which had been on recess had yet to deliberate on the petition.
Contacted, the council’s Public Relations Officer, Patricia Ezeji told newsmen that Agbarakwe was to “hand over to Aritola, pending the appointment of the substantive director.
