Commissioner Urges Corporate Oragnisation To Sponsor Sports

Rivers State Commissioner Sports, Hon. Fred Igwe has called on multi-nationals, corporate organisations and well-meaning individuals to sponsor sporting activities to compliment government efforts towards developing sports in the state.

Igwe made the call when he received trophies won by the state Basketball team, Under-16 Basketball and Under-16 Wrestling in his office at the weekend, in Port Harcourt.

According to him, government efforts towards sports development has started to produce justifiable results, as different sporting associations have started to win laurels at national and international competitions, shortly after the 17th National Sports Festival.

“Youths involvement in sports has shown on radical wake-up call for other youths to emulate who are yet to embrace peace and hardwork,” Igwe said.

Earlier, the state director of sports, Sir Daibu H. Harry who led the delegation to present the trophies, said the baseball team who won the West African Baseball tournament in Bukina Faso was achieved through personal efforts and determination.

Sir, Harry used the forum to appeal to the state government through the commissioner for sports to sponsor associations who are going for national and international competitions.

It will be recalled that the state Baseball team last month emerged winners of West African Baseball tournament in Bukina Faso also the Under-16 Basketball and U-16 Wrestling teams won various national competitions.
