Clerk Locks Out Assembly Staff Over Lateness

Some staffs of the Rivers State House of Assembly were Tuesday barred from entering the Assembly Complex for coming late to work.

The clerk of the Assembly, Sir Emmanuel Ofele who gave the order, said it was in line with the directive of the Speaker Rt. Hon. Otelemaba Amachree, against truancy on the part of workers.

The clerk frowned at the attitude of late coming by some staff of the Assembly, and emphasised that such counter productive attitude will not be condoned.

He charged the workers to live up to their responsibilities and take their job seriously, stating that disciplinary action will be taken against defaulting staff while hardworking ones will be rewarded.

Speaking on the issue, the Director of Press at the Rivers State House of Assembly, Mr. Tams Dede said the Speaker had earlier warned the staff against lateness to work and called for a change of attitude.

However, some of the workers attributed their lateness to heavy traffic obstructions on most major roads in Port Harcourt, due to on-going construction works and urged the Assembly to make provision for staff buses to pick staff at strategic positions, adding that such provision will ameliorate their plights.
