Association President Urges Women Interest In Golf

The President of Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria,  Vee Osuhor, has urged women across the country to develop more interest in golf games to be physically and mentally sound.

Osuhor, told newsmen during the flag off of 2011 1st Emenite/Enugu Ladies Golf Open Championship in Enugu  recently  that ladies should show more interest in sports like golf to improve their healthy lives.

“I wish all ladies could play golf, every woman, every girl could play golf, I wish for it. It is so nice for ladies to play golf. One, you keep fit which is your health.

“Two, you interact properly because golf develops your integrity because it is a game that borders on very high ethical standard, because may be you know that when you play, you regulate yourself.

“If you finish and you tell us you played two when you played ten, we mark your two, so you find that it is you, we want to train ladies because the ladies will train their children and we are having a better nation.’’

Mirabel Edozie, the General-Secretary of the association said there was need to introduce a golf clinic to attract ladies to the game.

“The ladies section really doesn’t have too many ladies right now. I don’t think the awareness for golf is really there.

“So the way the lady captain which we are going to encourage her can help toward having more ladies participate is to have a golf clinic.

“What this entails is you have it open to non-members of the club inviting ladies from all over and within Enugu, non-golfers, young, mature whatever age.

“Have them come around on a Saturday afternoon. And then have a feel.’’

Ethel Anyaji, the Ladies Captain of Enugu Golf Section said: “ I feel excited that ladies across the country honoured my invitation by joining me to open ladies golf section in Enugu.

“I equally thank the chairman of Enugu Sports Club, Richard Agu, the president of Ladies Golf Association and the captain of the men’s section for the support.’’

John Emenike, the captain of the men’s section said the opening of the ladies section was a welcome development to get them acquainted to golf games.

There was a tee-off and flag raising by the president of the ladies golf association, the chairman of Enugu Sports Club and the captains of the men and ladies golf sections to formally declare the Enugu ladies golf section open.
