AKULGA Gets 25,000 Insecticide-Treated Nets

Not less than 25,000 long lasting insecticide treated nets have been distributed to households in the seven communities across Akuku-Toru Local Government Area.

The Roll Back Malaria Focal person in the Local Government Area, Mrs Markba Georgewill said this in an interview with The Tide shortly after an anti-malaria sensitization programme organized by the Canaan Peace Women and Community Development Initiative (CAPWOCODI) at Ogoin Piri Ama.

Mrs Georgewill however regretted the ineffective utilization of the nets by beneficiaries.

Meanwhile, the Canaan Peace Women and Community Development Initiative (CAPWOCODI) has urged pregnant women in the state to utilize the opportunity provided by the various Government Health Centres in their domain by registering for antenatal care.

The Executive Director of the organization, (Mrs Christie Iwezor who said this during an anti malaria seminar at Ogoin Piri Ama in the Akuku-Toru Local Government Area also urged them to ensure environmental cleanliness at all times.

She said that the campaign which started in the Rivers South East Senatorial Zone has so far been held in the three Senatorial Zones.

“The sole aim of this malaria sensitisation campaign is to enlighten and increase the awareness base of our dear people on the need to fight malaria together for an effective result”, she said.

The Paramount ruler of Ogoin Piri Ama, Chief Melvin Eferebo thanked the group for the seminar which he described as first of its kind in the area.

He also urged his people to put into practice what they have been taught at the seminar, stressing that it is by so doing that, the ravaging effects of malaria can be checked in the area.

Also speaking, the Officer incharge of the National Population Commission (NPC) Akulga, Miss Atibi Jumbo said that the seminar has provided the opportunity to educate mothers for the birth registration of their children.
