‘Wrestling ’ll Dominate Football, Soon’
Nigerian born world wrestling Champion, Osita Offor, popularly known as “ultimate commander”, has said that wrestling would soon be more popular than football in Nigeria.
Offor made the assertion while fielding questions from sports journalists shortly after paying a courtesy visit to Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Hon Fred Igwe last week in Port Harcourt.
The Ultimate Commander stated that his mission to the state was to seek to partner with the government to develop sports, particularly wrestling.
According to him, “wrestling in Nigeria is not different from any other sports, but the problem is that so much attention has been given to football, which made other sports to suffer in terms of development, Offor said.
He stated that wrestling would soon be a house-hold sports in Nigeria, if most governors in the country are interested in developing the sport.
Nobody has time for wrestling, that is why it looks strange when some people hear about Nigerian wrestlers. But now all that will be a thing of the past. Soon, because most governors are showing interested to develop the sport.
He noted that one of the major challenges of wrestling in Nigerian is professional wrestling rings.
Professional wrestling rings have been our major challenge, but today, I have bought wrestling rings, so that anybody who have interest can go and train. He stated.
Ultimate commander, further stated that he would want to use wrestling to compain for good governance and rule of law.
