The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Rivers State has reiterated its resolve to control and rehabilitate drug dependent persons in the state.

The state Commander of the agency, Mr. Jude Akwure, stated this in an interview with newsmen in his office in Port Harcourt last Thursday.

Akwure also said that the agency has recorded significant success in the control, rehabilitation and reintegration of drug dependent persons into the society.

He explained that when drug dependent persons are brought to the agency “we counsel them and the ones that need psychiatric attention would have it. We have a psychiatrist that comes at intervals to take care of them, some have been successfully rehabilitated and reintegrated back into the society”, he stated. The NDLEA boss used the opportunity to call on Nigerians who have drug dependent persons to bring them to the agency for counselling and rehabilitation so that they could be good citizens tomorrow.

He warned that any security personnel involved in drug abuse would be arrested and prosecuted because they are bound by the law, adding that some have already been arrested and prosecuted in drug related offences in the state.
