Truck Safety Campaign Flags Off At Onne
The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Otelemaba Amachree, has applauded the Federal Roads Safety Commission, ( FRSC), Chevron Nigeria Limited, and Arrive Alive Road Safety Initiative, AARSI, for organising a road safety awareness programme for truck drivers.
The Speaker, who was represented by Hon. Legborsi Nwidddah representing Khana Constituency I, in the State Assembly, gave the commendation while flagging off the Truck Safety Campaign Programme at Onne Rivers State.
The Rivers Speaker called on truck drivers to adhere to simple traffic rules and regulations to avoid carnages on our roads, and added that motorists generally should imbibe the culture of patience and discipline to rid our roads of accidents especially during the forthcoming ember months.
Speaking at the event, the General Manger, Policy, Government and Public Affairs Chevron, Eng Femi Odumabo, said the initiative was to prevent the anguish, pains and destruction that trail road accident in the country.
Eng Odumabo, who was represented by Eng Ngor Kio, thanked the partners for the campaign and assured the commitment of Chevron towards protecting the lives of Nigerians, by reinforcing the value of safe driving on our roads.
In his remark, the Rivers State Sector Commander of the Federal Roads Safety Commission, Mr Osas Osadolor, appealed to truck drivers to comply to road safety regulations to avoid accidents on Nigerian roads.
The Rivers FRSC, boss, said the task of ensuring safety consciousness on our roads was collective and called on all stakeholders to join hands to make our roads accident free.
Also speaking, the Executive Secretary, Arrive Alive Road Safety Initiative, Mr Ike Okonkwo, said the programme was in line with United Nations Policy which declared 2011 to 2021 as the decade for action against road accident.
He called on the beneficiaries to avail themselves of the opportunities offered by the programme.
Highlight of the event was the launching of preventive and alert devises for visibility and sleeping while driving.
