Tenants Vacate Houses As Flood Takes Over Premises
The recent continuous rainfall that descended on Port Harcourt and its environs few weeks ago has left negative marks on some residential areas, especially within the Rumuosi-Ozuoba area of Obio/Akpor local government, resulting to flooding of the environment, thereby forcing some residents to relocate.
The Tide has gathered that this year’s heavy down-pour has negatively impacted on the environment as the level of flooding has toppled what is usually witnessed in these areas.
It was gathered that some residents who could no longer bear the condition, took the bold steps in relocating to other areas, while some are only waiting for the expiration of their rents before parking out.
One of the compounds affected by the flooding where The Tide visited shows that the negative imprints of the flooding has almost defaced the outlook of the compound, and most of the rented accommodation have been vacated.
The compound has witnessed exodus of tenants due to stagnant water surrounding the premises, without new tenants re-occupying the vacated premises.
One of the residents of the yard told The Tide in confidence that many of the tenants left the compound because no remarkable result has been achieved on how to control the flooding.
According to her, the premises now is infested with mosquitoes, pointing out that the most annoying part of it all is that they pull off their shoes when going out or coming into the compound.
It would be recalled that the Rivers State government has stepped up the construction of roadside drainages and expansion of creeks for the emptying of storm water resulting from the heavy rainfall being witnessed in the state.
