Sullivan Advises Youths On Good Conduct
Haram Youths have been advised to live according to the commandments of God and to shun violence and any act that could ruin their lives as future leaders.
The Governor of Enugu state, Barrister Sullivan. Chime, who gave the advice in an address at the opening ceremony of the 54th Annual National Bible Study Conference of the Anglican Youth Fellowship (AYF), at the Cathedral Church of Good Shepherd, Independence Layout, Enugu, urrged the youths to remain honest in their dealing and also work hard to develop themselves, the church and society at large.
Describing the thrust of the conference as timely given the rising incidence of violent crime perpetrated by youths across the country, governor Chime who was represented by the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Simon Ortuanya, restated the commitment of the government to creating ample employment opportunities for the youths in the state through the full implementation of the 4-point agenda of his administration.
Earlier in a keynote address, the Chairman of the Conference, Mr. Nnayelugo Onyemelukwe, noted that the aim of the Anglican Youth Fellowship (AYF) was to study the Bible, know it and practice what they learnt from the word of God.
Mr. Onyemelukwe thanked God that a good number of youths had come to renew their lives in Christ Jesus, adding that the venue was Mountain Zion upon which there would be deliverance.
The Chairman also restated the commitment of Enugu Diocese Anglican Communion towards sponsoring youth programmes in the state and appealed to the participants to be focused and make good use of their stay at the conference.
Also speaking, the National President, Anglican Youths Fellowship of Nigeria, Mr. Henshew Adetoye, condemned the unwholesome behaviours and practices by some youths which he described as “anti-social and anti-fellowship”.
According to him, they include shameless mode of dressing and taking of alcoholic drinks, and homosexual practice among the adult members of the fellowship, which had the tendencies of corrupt influence on the younger ones.
Focusing mainly on the state of the nation, the Anglican Youth National President enumerated the challenges that faced the country in the areas of over bloated cabinets, deplorable security situation across the country, Boko Harma, depressed economy and corruption.
He, therefore, called on the government to look into these issues and proffer a lasting solution to them.
In his remarks, the Primate of the Anglican Church Nigeria, the Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh, represented by the Archbishop of Ecclesiastical Province of Enugu, the Most Rev. Amos A. Madu, reminded the youths that the great men in the Bible were youths like them and advised that they should realize their potentials and secure their future for God’s blessing.
In a goodwill message, the Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Olisa Chukwuma, enjoined the youths to be good ambassadors of the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, in whatever they do.
He assured the participants of a conducive environment throughout their stay in the state.
The Conference which has in attendance over 10,600 participants featured song ministration, testimony time and intercessory prayers.
