Rotary Club Partners FG For Polio Eradication

The Rotary Club International says it is working in partnership with the Nigerian government to ensure the eradication of Polio from Nigeria by 2012.

The Rotary International President, Mr. Kalyan Banerjee said this in Port Harcourt while addressing the Club members at the Rotary Centre, Trans Amadi, Port Harcourt.

Mr. Banerjee, who expressed optimism that similar situation would be obtained in his home country India also said that the club is partnering with the Nigerian government for the creation of enterprising Development opportunities for youths in the country.

He said that his visit to Nigeria was in connection with the polio eradication programme stressing that, with the enormous efforts being expended by both the club and the government, the country would be certified polio-free.

While addressing newsmen, the Rotary International President said that, the club was working to eradicate HIV/AIDS, malaria and hunger in some African countries and expressed the hope that the Rotary Clubs will continue to make their mark in the area ofhumanitarian activities both at local and regional levels.

Mr. Banerjee who had earlier commissioned a renovated dinning hall by the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt GRA at the Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital Rumuigbo said that the Rotary Foundation would consist clubs which have done well in humanitarian services.

The District Governor, District 9140 Rotary Club, Rotarian Yinka Babalola, said that the District has within the last three years contributed more than a million dollars to the Rotary Foundation.
