Rivers GHOP Records Huge Success

The 123 children being sponsored by the Rivers State Government to top secondary schools in the country have recorded impressive performances in the Junior Secondary School examinations.

The children who are drawn from the 23 Local Government Areas of the state are sponsored by the government through the Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA) under the Greater Horizon Opportunity Programme (GHOP).

The chairman of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA), Greater Horizon Opportunities Programme, Elder Joshua Dick who disclosed this in an exclusive interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt, said reports reaching the  association indicates that the children are doing well in their various schools.

Elder Dick said that the GHOP programme, if sustained will enhance the quality of manpower in the state. “This programme is beyond what we can explain, because right now we are seeing the result. They have just finished their Junior Secondary School, they will be going into SS1 from the next academic session. You need to see these children, from the report we are getting, they are doing well compared to those other children who came from top schools who are already there”, he said.

He thanked the state Governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi for the gesture which has given children of less privileged  homes the opportunity of acquiring quality education and also interact with children of the rich and mighty in society, noting that it has changed their worldview.

Elder Dick also used the opportunity to congratulate the governor for his victory at the April 26 gubernatorial election in the state attributing it to the visible achievements across the state.

The PTA  chairman who used the occasion to futher congratulate the governor for emerging as chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum also hailed him for successfully hosting the 17th National Sports Festival as well as ensuring that the state emerged as the overall winner in the festival.
