Re-Position Sports Through Research, Talent Hunt – Consultant

A sports consultant,

George Bereoferi, has noted the need to re-define sports through proper research and aggressive school talent hunt programmes.

In an interview with newsmen in Lagos, he said that measures needed to be taken to tackle the lingering problems confronting sports.

“Our sports are going down year in year out and I think the best thing to do is to re-define sports through a proper research and aggressive talent hunt programme.

“Government should also create an enabling environment for private organisations to stake their monies in sports for Nigeria to regain its rightful position on the international scene,” he said.

Bereoferi, who is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on Zion Sports, noted that lack of funds, equipment and facilities had also contributed to the dwindling fortunes of sports in the country.

He recalled that most ex-internationals, who represented Nigeria in different sports and put the country’s name on the world map, were all discovered through school sports.

The sports consultant advised the federal and state governments to partner with the private sector to adequately fund and provide facilities to sustain sports.

He also said that services of consultants should be employed to engage coaches, organise coaching clinics and training in order to update the knowledge for athletes and coaches.
