Some participants at the ongoing screening into the Nigeria Police Cadet Inspector and ASP cadres have expressed the desire to positively improve the image of the Nigeria Police Force.

According to them, it was time for the Nigeria Police to assume international best practises in policing.

They said their major focus would be on how to redeem the image of the Police before its various stakeholders, noting that currently the image of the force had been badly damaged.

“My coming into the Police is to change its  image   which has been badly damaged. I have the zeal to serve Nigeria in this capacity. With my entry, I hope to ensure capacity building and educate the officers in different areas as I find necessary,’’ a participant who proferred anonymity said.

Another participant, Omolara Amusa, said that from her childhood, she had loved to serve Nigeria as a police woman through bringing positive changes particularly on human rights.

She also expressed her desire to change the way the public perceive the police as their enemies, rather than as friends.

Mary Akomolafe, who studied Primary Education, said  she wants to add value to the Police by educating policemen on how to eradicate crime by living an exemplary life in the Force.

Another candidate, Femi Ogunbadejo, who studied Geography and Regional Planning, said he want to join the Force to eradicate crime because he was a victim of criminal gangs in the university.

“Robbers came to our university, raped our girls and stole our properties. Then, I made up my mind to join the Police to fight crime in my community,” Ogunbadejo said.
