A non governmental organisation, Wakirike Medical Doctors Assocation in conjunction with other Wakirike unions in the United States of America and United Kingdom is offering a one day free medical services to the public, from Saturday this week.

Chairman of the association and consultant surgeon, University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) Dr Rollins Jamabo, in a chat with The Tide stated that the free medical and surgical outreach is expected to carry out 60 surgeries at the Ogu General Hospital, Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area.

Dr Jamabo, also a senior lecturer, University of Port Harcourt, said the body, comprising all qualified medical doctors of Kirikebese would be assisted by medical doctors who are friends of the body and pointed out that they would ensure that all cases especially those in dire need of surgical help would be attended.

He thanked the USA and UK Kirikese unions for sending fund and packages to assist in the outreach, pointing out that the Ogu/Bolo Local Government Council was providing logistics.

He said that this year’s outreach is the second in the series which started in 2009 and expressed the hope that after this, it would be held annually.

He observed that a total of 52 patients received surgical assistance at the Okrika General Hospital in the first edition and added that nine persons whose cases were critical and could not be handled as day-case were transferred to Seaside Specialist Surgery were they received treatment free.
